Severn Suzuki's Amazing Speech at the UN in Brazil

In the high school we're going to be focusing this year on developing the students' oratory skills. We showed them this speech as an example of a successful speech, asking them to analyze it. Severn Suzuki, Canadian activitst, was twelve-year-old when she gave a speech about protecting the environment at the 1992 United Nations summit in Brazil, temporarily silencing everyone in the assembly.

Why is her speech successful? What about her delivery works? How does the organization of the speech impact the message? How does her selection of content move you? What rhetorical devices does she employ in the speech?

After discussing it, we then showed the students a written copy of the speech for them to read and further analyze with specific examples.
