Quotes Related to the Brain

In many of the high school English classes we're practicing oratory skills, giving the students a quote at the end of each topic studied in their textbooks for them to present. We're teaching them the basic model of quote/explain/agree or disagree (introduction)/3 examples to back up one's opinion/conclusion. Developing these skills starting in ninth grade will help them to be solidly prepared for the speaking sections of the Cambridge and National English Exams.

Here are some quotes related to the brain that the students will discuss:

"Many complain about their looks, but none about their brains."
-- Yiddish proverb

"I not only use all the brains I have, but also all that I can borrow."
-- Woodrow T. Wilson, 28th American President, 1856-1924

"To repeat what others have said, requires education -- to challenge it, requires brains."
-- Mary Pettibone Poole

"Money without brains is always dangerous."
-- Napoleon Hill, American author, 1883-1970

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go."
-- Theodore Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, American children's author, 1904-1991
